Miles to Go

It seems fitting to fundraise for MS with an epic cycling event. A physical and mental challenge is a natural metaphor for what it is to live with a disease that uncovers your limits and forces you to find new ways past them.

Today there is no cure for MS, but leaps forward in research and development over the previous decades have delivered treatments which are changing the trajectory of this disease for a growing number of patients. This progress should be celebrated, but it is not enough.

Too many people are diagnosed late, or are unable to access the most effective treatments, leaving them with damage and disability that is currently irreversible. In little and big ways, MS patients live with these missed opportunities for the rest of their lives. Luckily, researchers around the world are working to tackle these problems – identifying new diagnostic tools, optimizing next generation treatments and screening compounds which may someday heal what MS has scarred. Funding this work got us to where we are, and I think it can take us further.
